Inside each of us lives the child we once were—the dreamer, the innocent, the one who first experienced joy, wonder, and also pain. Over time, life often teaches us to “grow up,” to toughen our skin, and to silence that tender voice. But our inner child never disappears. It waits patiently, asking us to listen, to comfort, and to remember who we truly are.
I remember once doing this spread for myself when I felt blocked in my creativity. The first card showed me a dream I had as a child—to spend my days painting. The second card revealed the obstacle I carried: the belief that it wasn’t practical or “good enough.” The third card—my inner child’s need—was simple: play. It wasn’t about perfection, it was about joy. That session reminded me that healing isn’t about erasing the past—it’s about gently holding that child within and saying, I see you, I love you, and I’m here now.
Preparing for the Spread
This is tender work, so set up your space with comfort in mind. Perhaps light a candle, wrap yourself in a favorite blanket, or hold something from your childhood—a toy, a photo, or even a small keepsake. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Imagine yourself meeting your inner child—what do they look like? How do they feel? Whisper to them: I’m here for you now.
The Spread Layout
This is a simple three-card spread, but its impact can be profound:
Card One – Childhood Dream: What your inner child once longed for or held as precious.
Card Two – Current Obstacle: The challenge or wound that is blocking you now.
Card Three – Inner Child’s Needs: What your inner child needs to feel safe, loved, and supported in order to heal and thrive.

Interpreting the Spread
Card One: Allow yourself to remember. What dream or aspiration does this bring up? Even if it feels far away, honor it—it was once the truth of your heart.
Card Two: This may show you the wound, the fear, or the obstacle that grew as you aged. Approach it with compassion, not judgment. This is not about blame—it’s about understanding.
Card Three: This card is the heart of your healing. Ask your inner child: What do you need? How can I support you now? Sometimes it’s reassurance, sometimes play, sometimes creativity, or simply rest.
As you look at the three cards together, notice how your past dream, present challenge, and inner child’s needs weave a story. Healing is not about “fixing” your child self—it’s about being the adult who shows up with kindness and love.
