Grief is a sacred teacher—one that brings us face to face with love, loss, and the truths of impermanence. This spread is both a ritual and a refuge. At its center lies a healing circle of ten reflective cards, each inviting you into deeper layers of compassion, remembrance, and renewal. Surrounding this sacred circle are the four elemental anchors—Earth, Air, Fire, and Water—offering grounding, insight, transformation, and release.
This is a powerful, intentional layout best done in a quiet, undisturbed space. Prepare a candle or a small altar with symbols of your loved one, nature elements, or comforting objects. You will create a large circle spread of 10 cards, and have a further four cards on the outside of the circle in a square.
🌕 The Circle of Grief: 10 Cards
Lay these ten cards in a circular shape (like a clock face). Begin at the top and move clockwise.
1.How can I face this loss?
What strength lives inside me even now?
➤ Journal: What emotions come up when I speak to my grief directly?
2.How do I let the pain come out?
Where is my sorrow stored, and how does it want to be released?
➤ Journal: What healthy expressions of release feel natural to me—tears, words, sound, movement?
3.Who can I share this with?
Where can I be witnessed without judgment?
➤ Journal: What do I need from others right now? Where am I being called to reach out or retreat?
4.Can I relish the beauty of the natural world?
What does nature want to teach me about grief and renewal?
➤ Journal: What moments of beauty soothe or awaken me lately?
5.How can I be gentle with myself?
What kindness can I offer to the version of me that’s grieving?
➤ Journal: If I could write a letter to myself right now, what would it say?
6.Can I allow myself the time I need to heal?
What illusions around timelines or expectations am I ready to release?
7.What mind/body activity brings peace right now?
Is there a practice, rhythm, or movement that helps me feel safe and whole?
➤ Journal: When do I feel most present in my body? What makes my nervous system feel supported?
8.Looking directly into this loss, what do I see?
What truth or image arises when I stop looking away?
9.Can I find the gift and good in this situation?
What is being revealed through the sorrow—about life, love, or meaning?
10.What moves with me into the future?
What love, lesson, or presence continues alongside me from this experience?
➤ Journal: What is my grief transforming into? What is the thread I carry forward?
🔺 The Four Elemental Corners: Cards of Integration
Place one card in each corner of your reading space, forming a square around your circle. These elemental anchors bring multidimensional support for grief and trauma.
Top Left – Earth (Grounding & Safety):
What grounds me during emotional upheaval?
➤ Reflect on daily rituals, nature, or supportive people who help you feel safe in your body.
Top Right – Air (Clarity & Understanding):
What mental clarity or shift in perception am I being offered?
➤ Consider any recurring thoughts or beliefs that are ready to be gently re-examined.
Bottom Left – Fire (Transformation & Energy):
What is being burned away or transformed through this grief?
➤ This is where courage and creativity dwell—perhaps a nudge to write, sing, or make art.
Bottom Right – Water (Emotional Flow & Release):
What emotions still want to move through me?
➤ Let this card speak directly to the heart. Tears are holy. Expression is healing.

🌼 A Personal Note on Memento Mori and Love Beyond Loss
We each grieve differently. For some, healing arrives in the form of service. For others, it comes through singing, creating art, writing, or quietly honoring the memory of what was lost.
One such act of remembrance might be as simple and powerful as finding an object that calls back a presence—like the yellow metal Tonka trucks nestled in a lovely corner of my garden, speaking daily to my twin brother lost at twelve. Recently, I found these trucks thrown away at the recycling center, on a particularly emotionally hard day for me. Like a loving message or a gift. My twin had adored these kinds of trucks. These small acts of love become part of the landscape of healing.
Let this spread help you create your own ritual of remembrance—a bridge between what was, what is, and what will forever live on in your heart.
